Search Engine Optimisation

Search Engine Optimisation is used to describe the marketing technique of preparing a website to enhance its chances of being ranked in the top results of a search engine once a relevant search is undertaken. A number of factors are important when optimising a website, namely:

  • The content
  • Structure of the website and how webpages link to other pages as one surfs deeper into your website
  • Meta tags which provide extra information to search engines about your website
  • No Key words or poorly chosen keywords
  • No Description or poor description
  • No text on the Home Page, only images and/or purely flash-based website. Sites without text rate poorly on search engines
  • No Links page
  • No Title
  • No Alternative text on images
  • Not own domain name. This refers to when a shared web address is used.
  • Use of frames. Frames may speed up the use of the website once it has loaded but search engines are not able to effectively search your website
  • No links or poor quality links to the website from other websites page

Some SEOs (Search Engine Optimizers), distinguish methods used by practitioners as either "white hat SEO" (methods generally approved by search engines, such as building content and improving site quality), or "black hat SEO" (tricks such as cloaking and spamdexing). White hats say that black hat methods are an attempt to manipulate search rankings unfairly. Black hatters counter that all SEO is an attempt to manipulate rankings, and that the particular methods one uses to rank well are irrelevant. Other SEOs reject the black and white hat dichotomy as over-simplification.

We have chosen to follow search engine accepted methods, since search engines have been known to ban websites from their listings for dubious tactics. All our websites are automatically optimised during web developement and there is no extra charge. Submission to search engines is also included in the quoted costs.
